being with people (2023)

to celebrate the end of their year long student residency at banks mill, artist andrew martyn sugars presents a collection of experimental works brought together under the title of the art of being with people.

researched between november 2022 and the present, the works explore responses to lived experience or viewed from a distance of being with people.

as with previous work by sugars, they play with audience expectations around how they experience the work.  “if you feel like picking something up to alter the position, go with your gut feeling” says andrew of the works on display.

using a variety of mediums, the concept of being with people is considered through conceptual works and performances.
