” ….. you cannot predict the outcome of human development. All you can do, like a farmer, is create the conditions under which they will begin to flourish.”
― Sir Ken Robinson
during his life, sir ken robinson was an advocate for experiential holistic learning. I concur with this view and transfer skills and ethos learnt and practised as a forest school leader into the sessions to ensure those taking part feel confident to step into the activity area and engage.
within my artistic practice i am interested in presence, and this transfers into bounding the workshop space in a safe manner – all those present are free to try things, to question their assumptions, and experiment.
The sessions begin with an invitation to the participants to engage with a material, a concept, a theme, or a process to explore, experiment and create. these can be in a workshop, drop in activity, or within an event or location.
Sessions i’ve facilitated have been for a wide range of ages and abilities including, under 5’s and their adults, key stage 1 through 3, sixth form send students, young people, families, adults and older citizens. The locations for these are as diverse, including a hospital, museums, an art gallery, schools, outdoors, public space in community buildings, and online.
selected sessions:
Japanese 4 hole stab book
led Christmas card
Exquisite corpse
Loose parts play session
Stick art
Stone art
8 bit lego art
Zine making
Using examples and positive language, those present are encouraged to follow their instinct and to take risks in trying something new or to develop an existing skill. For those that need it, there’s further demonstration, encouragement and affirmation.
I’m happy to meet and discuss your needs, location, resources and group to ideate towards a session idea. To develop that initial idea into a session plan and deliver it at your location. I’m happy to collect participation data you might require for your group or funders and to reflect about the session with you. If you’re interested in arranging a meeting, please get in touch via the contact page. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
